For the second year running, GroupM, WPP’s media investment group, led the industry in new business wins and retention total, according to COMvergence’s Global New Business Barometer FY 2022 report.
In the report released today, COMvergence — an independent and international research bureau measuring the performance of major global ad and media agencies — assessed GroupM with $4.02 billion in new business wins and $3.02 billion in retentions. Among agency networks, Mindshare ranked second in new business wins and retentions and third in overall net new business value, according to COMvergence.
GroupM won 23% of total reviewed media spend in 2022, the highest percentage among holding companies, according to COMvergence. The research firm also ranked GroupM first in new business in some of the world’s largest economies, including Japan and India, two of the top 10 global advertising markets, according to GroupM’s This Year Next Year 2022 Global End-of-Year Forecast. In the same forecast, GroupM recognized India as the fastest-growing market.
The results reinforce the appeal of GroupM’s transformation agenda, industry-leading performance capabilities and commitment to setting new standards for responsibility and sustainability in the industry with the industry’s most ambitious global marketers, even in a year marked by economic uncertainty.
In 2022, GroupM announced a series of initiatives in line with its ambition to define the next era of media including the formation of EssenceMediacom and GroupM Nexus; the introduction of a global media decarbonization framework and calculator; and the formation of GroupM Premium Marketplace. In December, MediaPost named GroupM Media Holding Company of the Year for the second consecutive year.
