GroupM Ranks First in COMvergence’s 2022 Final Billings Rankings

Mindshare finishes second among agency networks while MediaCom finishes third and Wavemaker sees the third highest global billings growth from 2021 to 2022 in the industry
GroupM entered 2023 as the global leader in media investment with nearly $64 billion in total billings globally, according to COMvergence’s final Global & Regional Billings Rankings & Market Shares 2022 Report, underscoring the strength of GroupM’s partnerships with clients, ability to keep clients at the forefront of their businesses, and leadership in the marketplace.
GroupM’s billings total globally was an industry leading $3.9 billion more than the year prior, accounting for 15.9% of the total industry and 30% of the “Big 6” agency groups.
These results were underscored by particularly strong showings across APAC and EMEA, where GroupM ranked first in both regions by sizable margins, while jumping to second in North America.
Among agency networks, Mindshare maintained its rank of #2 with $22 billion in global billings, while MediaCom—evaluated separately from Essence prior to their official merger this year—holds the third position with $20 billion. Combined, Essence and MediaCom registered an industry-leading global billings estimate of $25 billion according to COMvergence’s figures.
Additionally, Wavemaker saw global billings growth of nearly $1.4 billion in 2022 over 2021, third highest in the industry.
In GroupM’s fastest growing region, APAC, Mindshare, MediaCom and Wavemaker finished first, second and third in billings rankings, respectively. In EMEA, MediaCom grabbed the second ranking while Wavemaker grabbed the third ranking.
