GroupM Supports Global Alliance for Responsible Media’s Three-Pronged Action Plan to Improve Digital Safety

New York, January 22, 2020 – The Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) today unveiled its three-pronged action plan to deploy consistent strategies in fighting harmful content online. Starting in June, the coalition will aim to accelerate progress through the shared adoption of 11 key definitions of what constitutes harmful content, especially covering areas such as explicit content, drugs, spam and terrorism. Through agreement of shared standards on harmful content, the industry will be better positioned to protect vulnerable audiences, particularly children. Additionally, the alliance will develop and adopt common tools and technologies to combat harmful content and, in turn, establish shared measurement standards that support independent oversight.

As a founding member of GARM, GroupM actively and proudly supports the establishment of rigorous best practices and standards that improve brand safety in online environments, making advertising work better for clients and consumers as a result.

“When the Alliance launched in Cannes, we recognized the uncommon collaboration that would be required to make a meaningful impact on reducing harmful content online,” John Montgomery, Global EVP of Brand Safety for GroupM, said on the importance of this announcement. “GroupM is proud to lend our full support.”
